India Delegation Visit to NSRL

Soy processors and industry decision makers with the solvent Extractors' Association of India, accompanied by representatives from Illinois Soybean Association and the American Soybean Association

Purpose

Their visit was part of a longer visit to the U.S. to learn about resources of interest to the organization.

 

Processing and Marketing Soybean for Meat, Dairy, and Baking Applications

Technical, plant management, marketing, quality control, and research personnel interested in promoting private sector expansion of soybean foods in the international market.

April is Soy Foods Month
April 13-14 , 2006 in Champaign, IL

Purpose The illustrate the many ways soy can be used in tasty and healthy foods, for use everyday and in everyone's meal plan.
Activities

Free soy enhanced cookies (over 2000) were distributed to the public at five UI campus locations.

An "Around the World with Soy" tasting/luncheon was served to invited UI faculty and staff, community food service workers, and soy industry personnel. Featuring international cuisine from the latest Illinois Center for Soy Foods (ICSF) cookbook, Around the World with Soy, over 20 soy enhanced foods were enjoyed by all.

A soy foods demonstration and tasting was presented by ICSF staff on a Saturday morning to those interested in how to include soy ingredients in their everyday diet.

 

Sustainable BioEnergy: Focus on the Future of Biofuels and Chemicals

Participants Researchers, university faculty and staff, industry and government employees interested in the future of bioenergy research and policy.
Purpose

The focus will be on sustainable bioenergy and the current state and future potential of biofuels and chemicals. This includes plant and microbial aspects, downstream processing, and economics of biobased products production. In addition to providing an overview of research at various institutions, the meeting will also include a government and industrial perspective. Illinois Soybean Association Spring Forum

Participants Illinois soybean producers, Checkoff Board members, and University of Illinois researchers.
Purpose An open meeting where the latest research in soybean production, marketing and utilization is presented by the university researchers funded in part by Illinois Soybean Checkoff funds. Lunch is served, and soy enhanced refreshments are provided by the Illinois Center for Soy Foods. Institute of Medicine Workshop on Nutrition Standards for Foods in Schools

Purpose To provide feedback to the Institute's committee that is gathering information about standards for foods in public schools. The presentation focused on summarizing the accepability of soy foods as shown in the ISoy program, and making the case for the role of soy enhanced foods in schools interested in enhancing school food nutrition.
