| Purpose |
Ms. Lee is a representative of Dr. Chung's Foods based in
the
United States. Dr. Chung's Foods is one of the key nutrition enterprises
in South Korea. Ms. Lee is responsible for building the infrastructure,
trade ties, and marketing and production strategies for Dr. Chung's in
the
U.S. She visited the University of Illinois to better understand what
work NSRL does, and how she might benefit from those efforts. She was
particularly interested in getting input on product development,
processing, taste and market studies. |

| Purpose |
Dr. Caio Vidor is the Director of the Soybean Research Center
for EMBRAPA, located in Londrina, Parana, Brazil. He visited with
various faculty members at UIUC to foster future collaborations between
EMBRAPA and UIUC for soybean research. Faculty visits centered primarily
on the crop protection disciplines of weed science, entomology, and plant
pathology, and on soybean breeding and genetics. |

The trade team of preferred customers to the U.S. visited
locations in the US to learn about the differential advantages of the U.S.
in soybean exports and to re-confirm US farmers’ ability to produce
quality soybeans and to fund research aimed at improving oil and protein

about NSRL activities. |

NSRL as part of an annual grain tour to the Midwestern United States. The
group of approximately 30 visitors consisted of people from many different

| Purpose |
Mr. INOUE is a senior researcher with the Fukui Agricultural
Experiment Station in Japan. His visit to NSRL was part of a two-week
visit to the central United States to learn more about high-yield and high-quality
production techniques of soybeans and rice. He was also interested
in cultivation techniques of soybean in the U.S. Mr. INOUE visited
with researchers in the Department of Crop Sciences as well as NSRL. He
also took tours of the South Farms and the USDA germplasm collection. |

| Purpose |
Illinois Congressional Aides visited the National Soybean
Research Laboratory to discuss biotechnology and what it means for Illinois
and Illinois agriculture. This was the first stop of several on a
tour in the State. Major objectives of the visit were: (1) to better
understand the genetics of key agricultural crops and livestocks, (2) to
explore means to improve productivity of production by enhancing yields
and reducing the impacts of diseases, (3) to provide higher value output,
to document food safety and environmental concerns, and (4) to determine
economic and social implications of these new technologies. |

A group of 20 international students (mainly from Thailand)
visited NSRL as part of a three day tour of agribusiness areas in central
Illinois. The main objective of the tour was to learn about various aspects
of life in the Midwest. The main focus at NSRL was to get an overview
of agribusiness, and what soy research is being done at the University
of Illinois. |
