Introducing the New NSRL Director

Purpose To introduce Steve Pueppke as the incoming Director of NSRL and Peter Goldsmith as the NSRL Fellow in Agricultural Strategy.

Purpose To showcase and sample the wide variety of commercially available soy based foods available for purchase or home preparation.

Product Development of Soy Foods Course

Sponsoring Organization INTSOY, ICSF, WISHH, and NSRL.
Participants Over a dozen representatives from the food service industry and PVO's from developing countries.
Purpose Discuss and learn how to include soy ingredients in products for the worldwide market place.

Participants A delegation of Agribusiness people from Brazil.
Purpose Provide information on the topics of Soy Foods; Improving and Protecting Soybean Yield; Sudden Death Syndrome, Soybean Cyst Nematode, and the Current Status of Soybean Rust in the US; and Varietal Information Program for Soybeans .

PVO Midwest Workshop
August 13-15, 2003
Sponsoring Organization World Initiative for Soy in Human Health and the National Soybean Research Lab
Participants PVO and WFP representatives from Uganda, Ghana, Gambia and Kenya, and officials from several agencies based in Washington, as well as industry representatives, USDA, USAID, U.S. farmers and WISHH team members attended the course.
Purpose Provide information and discussion of the uses of soybeans and soybean products in food aid.

 

ISPOB Summer Tour

Participants Illinois soybean producers, USB and ISCB associates, faculty and staff of major Illinois universities, soybean industry representatives.
Purpose This meeting served as a platform to share the latest ISCB-funded soybean research conducted at University of Illinois research farms with many people associated with the soybean industry.

Purpose Provide information on soybean products and nutrition and its utilization in local foods and help them plan the inclusion of soy protein products in their HIV/AIDS climics.

Soy Flavor Workshop
April 22 -23, 2003

Participants There were four individuals who came from outside the University. The companies that were represented were:
Kraft Foods, Nestle Purina Research Corporation, Akzo Nobel, Protex Food Corporation

In addition there were several Food Science and Human Nutrition graduate students and post-doctorates who attended the workshop

Purpose The workshop was designed for food technologists, scientists, researchers, registered dietitians, and those in management interested in the sensory properties of soy foods
