Producer Certification System

A pilot Illinois electronic information and certification system available for value added corn and soybeans has been completed. The system was called SoySelect, and identified the entire history of production, storage, handling and transportation activities from seed planting through delivery of whole grain to a processing or export location. The information systems, standards and protocols incorporated a whole-system approach to assessing and tracking the value-added crop attribute information. The end result would demonstrate one method to improve Illinois’ capacity to respond to national and international demands for increased quality and identity preservation of value added crops and should increase consumer confidence in value-added crops and agricultural biotechnology.
